It is often argued that schools should place greater emphasis on teaching life skills like teamwork and problem-solving, rather than focusing solely on traditional academic subjects. I completely agree with this viewpoint.

There are two primary reasons why I believe life skills should be given more importance in the school curriculum. Firstly, in the modern world, employers increasingly value soft skills such as collaboration, adaptability, and critical thinking. These skills are essential for success in almost every profession, from business and healthcare to engineering and education. For example, a software developer who can work effectively with colleagues and find solutions to complex issues is likely to be more valuable than one who is simply good at memorising formulas. Therefore, teaching students how to work in teams and tackle real-world problems better prepares them for the demands of the workforce.

In addition to enhancing employability, a life-skill-oriented education can also contribute to students’ overall personal development. Traditional academic subjects, while important, often do not equip students to handle everyday challenges such as managing conflict, making decisions, or dealing with stress. By contrast, life skills nurture emotional intelligence and resilience—traits that are vital for leading a balanced and fulfilling life. For instance, when students learn how to resolve disputes or negotiate in group activities, they develop interpersonal abilities that help them succeed beyond the classroom.

In conclusion, while academic knowledge remains valuable, I firmly believe that life skills deserve equal—if not greater—attention in school education. Prioritising such skills can help students thrive in both their professional and personal lives.
